Giulia Muraca, PhD is a perinatal epidemiologist and an associate professor in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Health Research Methods, Evidence & Impact at McMaster University. Dr. Muraca is an early-career investigator specializing in the use of quantitative research methods to carry out maternal, fetal, and neonatal health and health services research, with emphasis on care quality, accessibility, and equity.<\/p>\n
Dr. Muraca\u2019s expertise is in using epidemiologic approaches to understand the incidence, risk factors, and modifiers of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality through the linkage of large (population-based), databases. Since her appointment at McMaster in September 2021, she has founded the Perinatal Epidemiology Research Lab (PERL), based at the McMaster University Medical Centre, for which she serves as principal investigator. The PERL is an interdisciplinary community of perinatal researchers, clinicians, health policy scholars, trainees, community advocates, and patients working together to advance maternal and child health. Over a short time, the PERL has evolved into a vibrant hub for perinatal research with a strong commitment to applying a health equity lens to perinatal epidemiologic research.
