He completed a MSc in statistics at the University of British Columbia and a BSc in mathematics at Brock University. Refik has been at ICES since 2004, spending most of his time on health services research in cancer, including screening, treatment and end-of-life care.<\/p>\n<p>His current work with Data &amp; Analytic Services focuses on facilitating research led by external investigators with a wide range of topics, including assessing cardiovascular events associated with a specific drug therapy, exploring healthcare utilization and costs associated with smoking, complications following a prostate biopsy, the effectiveness of a surgical safety checklist and econometric analyses of how surgical referral decisions are made.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Refik is a staff scientist with Data &amp; Analytic Services and the Cancer Program at ICES Central.
