Paula Rochon is Director of Research at Weston and O\u2019Born Centre for Mature Women\u2019s Health at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was the Vice-President, Research at Women’s College Hospital, which is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. She is also a senior scientist at Women’s College Research Institute, and a professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, with a cross-appointment to the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. In July 2015, Dr. Rochon was named the inaugural Retired Teachers of Ontario\/Les Enseignantes et Enseignants Retrait\u00e9s de L’Ontario (RTO\/ERO) chair in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto for a five year term. Prior to her appointment at Women’s College Hospital, Dr. Rochon was a senior scientist at the Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied Research Unit at Baycrest Centre, where she retains the role of adjunct scientist.<\/p>\n
Dr. Rochon’s expertise as a leading Canadian health services researcher in geriatric medicine is rooted in her clinical work as a geriatrician. Her research explores how medical therapies impact the health of vulnerable older adults with multiple conditions\u00a0and has contributed to three areas that impact patients and systems: the lack of evidence to inform prescribing to older adults, the development of strategies to optimize prescribing and reduce adverse drug events, and the impact of widespread antipsychotic use in older people.<\/p>\n
Dr. Rochon has published more than 180 peer-reviewed papers in leading medical journals, including The Lancet<\/em>, BMJ<\/em>, Annals of Internal Medicine<\/em>, JAMA<\/em> and Archives of Internal Medicine<\/em>.
