Sharmistha Mishra, MD, MSc, PhD is an infectious disease physician, infectious disease epidemiologist and mathematical modeler. She holds a Tier 2 Canadian Research Chair in Mathematical Modeling and Program Science. Her team conducts observational epidemiology, causal inference, and transmission modeling studies to tease apart mechanisms that shape heterogeneity and disproportionate risks of infection, severity, and ultimately – population-level transmission of infectious diseases. Her work also examines mechanisms of biases in observational studies when drawing inference. Central to her lab’s research is disentangling transmission pathways structured by systemic inequities, and testing the potential impact of interventions tailored to disproportionate risks to inform public health and policy decisions.
