Dr. Julie Hallet is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto and a Surgical Oncologist with a clinical practice devoted to hepato-biliary, pancreatic, and upper gastrointestinal malignancies at the Odette Cancer Centre – Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Her practice further focuses on neuroendocrine tumors as part of the Susan Leslie Clinic for Neuroendocrine Tumors.<\/p>\n
Dr. Hallet leads a research program in health services research aimed at improving the fidelity of care delivery in cancer surgery through access to quality care, high-performing team care models, and risk communication support, with a commitment to patient-centred research and equity. To support her research, she has received over $10 millions in peer-reviewed operating grants. This work has led to over 250 peer-reviewed publications.<\/p>\n
Dr. Hallet holds leadership roles in National and International societies. Among those roles, she serves as the Chair of the HPB disease site working group of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Chair of the Inclusive Excellence Committee of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, a Board member of the North American Neuroendocrine Tumors Society, a Board member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the President of the Society of Surgical Ergonomics. She is co-founder of and coordinates the Collaborative of sUrgical Teams for Neuroendocrine Tumors (CUTNETs), an international group that aims to leverage collective expertise and resources to improve the surgical care and outcomes of patients with NETs. Dr. Hallet graduated from medical school in 2006 and completed her general surgery residency in 2011 at Université Laval in Québec City. During her surgical training, she entered the masters in sciences clinical epidemiology program at Université Laval as part of the clinical investigator program. After finishing her general surgery and research training, Dr. Hallet completed a surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Toronto during which she focused on hepato-pancreatico-biliary and upper gastrointestinal malignancies. She then obtained additional training in advanced minimally invasive and robotic liver and pancreatic surgery at the Institute of Research Against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD) in Strasbourg, France. During this time she also worked on the development of new image-guided research at the Institut de Chirurgie Guidée par l’Image (Institute for Image-Guided Surgery) from the Institut Hospitalier Universitaire de Strasbourg. <\/p>n
Dr. Hallet’s surgical practice is devoted to hepato-biliary, pancreatic and upper gastrointestinal malignancies, with a clinical focus on minimally invasive and image-guided therapies, as well as neuroendocrine tumors. As a surgeon-investigator, her research focuses on health services population based research to examine processes, patterns of care, and outcomes of hepato-pancreato-biliary malignancies. In particular, Dr. Hallet is dedicated to improving care and outcomes of neuroendocrine tumors by identifying and implementing enablers to timely diagnosis and effective management.
