Dr. Michael Green is the President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean, and CEO of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University (NOSM University), where he is also a Professor, Family Medicine in the Division of Clinical Sciences. He brings a wealth of leadership experience from his time as Chair of Family Medicine at Queen\u2019s University and as the 70th President of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.<\/p>\n
Before joining NOSM University, Dr. Green held the Brian Hennen Chair and led the Department of Family Medicine at Queen\u2019s University from 2017 to 2023. He also served as the inaugural Chair in Applied Health Economics and Health Policy at Queen’s and directed the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research. Additionally, he holds an adjunct research appointment at Queen\u2019s University and is a Senior Adjunct Scientist at ICES.<\/p>\n
Dr. Green’s dedication to healthcare spans clinical practice, research, and policy advocacy. He practiced family medicine for over eight years in Moose Factory, Ontario, where he also served as Chief of Staff. His research is widely recognized, focusing on primary care, quality of care, equity in health, and Indigenous health, with over $40 million in grant funding and more than 100 publications.<\/p>\n
In recognition of his contributions to health policy, Dr. Green was elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2018. His expertise has been sought on numerous professional and government committees, including advisory roles during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario\u2019s Wait Times Expert Panel, and Diabetes Canada\u2019s working group on Indigenous health.<\/p>\n
Dr. Green completed his medical training at the University of British Columbia, followed by a Family Medicine residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He later earned his Master of Public Health (MPH) with a focus on Health Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.<\/p>\n

Dr. Michael Green was appointed Brian Hennen Chair and Head of the Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University for a five-year period beginning July 1, 2017. Dr. Green is also an associate professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Queen’s University and the Clinical Teachers’ Association of Queen’s University Chair in Applied Health Economics\/Health Policy. He is director of the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research and associate director of research for the Department of Family Medicine and the Centre for Studies in Primary Care. He joined ICES as an adjunct scientist in 2009. <\/p>n
He has worked as a consultant for both the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Health Canada and has served on many professional and government expert committees including the Ontario Expert Panel on Wait Times in Primary Care, the Advisory Committee on Ontario’s Immunization System Review, the College of Family Physicians of Canada Aboriginal Health Working Group and Patient’s Medical Home Steering Committee, and Health Quality Ontario’s Primary Care Advisory Committee. He regularly serves on grant review panels, including CIHR’s Aboriginal Health Committee and new Foundation Scheme. He reviews for a wide range of journals and is on the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Rural Medicine. <\/p>n

He moved to Queen’s University in 2003, where he has an active family practice, including intrapartum obstetrics, at the Queen’s Family Health Team. He also practiced in public health as a medical officer with Health Canada’s First Nations and Inuit Health Branch from 2003-2014. His research covers a broad range of health services and policy research areas with an emphasis on primary care, quality of care, equity in health, and aboriginal health and has been supported by major grants from CIHR and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. <\/p>n
