He is a pediatric gastroenterologist with a primary interest in treating children with IBD. Dr. Benchimol is also an epidemiologist and chairs the <a href=\"https:\/\/cangiec.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Gastro-Intestinal Epidemiology Consortium (CanGIEC)<\/a>, which conducts epidemiology, pharmaco-epidemiology, outcomes, and health services research using the health administrative data from multiple provinces. He co-chairs the <a href=\"https:\/\/cidscann.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Children Inflammatory Bowel Disease Network<\/a>. He is also director of the Health Information Technology Program at the CHEO Research Institute, and a core scientist the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences. In addition to treating children with IBD, Dr. Benchimol conducts epidemiology, outcomes, and health services research in patients with IBD using health administrative data, as well as for children with other chronic diseases. He chairs the Canadian Gastro-Intestinal Epidemiology Consortium (CanGIEC), which conducts national research on IBD and other chronic illnesses. He is supported by a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Association of Gastroenterology, and Crohn&rsquo;s and Colitis.
