Gary is passionate about developing learning health and social care systems. That is, human services that are designed to purposefully bring together knowledge, information, tools and clear purpose, so that patients\/clients, health\/social care professionals, administrators and researchers can effectively work and learn together to create better services, health and well-being.<\/p>\n

To that end, Gary has conducted and led quality improvement, performance measurement and health services research over the past 20 years, in Ontario, Saskatchewan and elsewhere. He has fostered many applied research collaborations in Canada, contributing to improvements in elder care, chronic disease management, medication safety, community wellbeing, and promoting patient-centred care and research. Currently, his research is focused on the implementation science of fostering health promoting health services – “reorienting” health (sickness) care towards health improvement.<\/p>\n

Gary was co-principal investigator and a key leader in the development of the Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Research<\/a>, which is the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) co-funded Patient-Oriented Research SUPPORT Unit in Saskatchewan. He was principal investigator for the Saskatchewan site of the CIHR-funded Canadian Network for Observational Drug Effect Studies<\/a> from its inception in 2010 to 2018. He was also one of the founders of the Community Safety Knowledge Alliance<\/a>, serving as secretary-treasurer of the Board from 2015-2018.<\/p>\n

Dr. Teare is senior scientist in population, public and Indigenous health, at Alberta Health Services. He is  adjunct professor in the College of Medicine and in the School of Public Health, University of Saskatchewan and, affiliate scientist at ICES in Toronto. He was director of Quality Measurement and Analysis (2005-2014) and then chief executive officer (2014-2018) of the Saskatchewan Health Quality Council. He served on the Institute Advisory Board of the CIHR Institute of Aging 2008-2013, has served on several expert working groups for the Canadian Institute for Health Information during the past 20 years. Gary earned degrees in veterinary medicine (DVM), immunology (MSc) and epidemiology (PhD).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
