Awards & Recognition

ICES brings together the best and brightest scientific talent. Many of our scientists are internationally recognized in their fields and receive national and international awards and recognition for their important work.

  • American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Institute Council Section Research Mentor Award

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Linda Rabeneck in the Clinical Practice category. The award recognizes outstanding mentors in specific research area.

  • Stars Career Development Award

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Jessica Widdifield for the project “Using real world data to enhance patient care and outcomes, and health system performance for rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases” by the Arthritis Society.

  • Constantine Douketis New Researcher Award

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Aristithes Doumouras for the project "The effect of bariatric surgery on breast cancer incidence characteristics, outcomes and mortality" by The Research Institute of St. Joe's Hamilton.

  • Innovation Award

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Samuel Siu by the Department of Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University for innovation in program development.

  • Biomedical Research Grant

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Rahul Chanchlani by the Kidney Foundation for "Long-term kidney and heart outcomes after acute kidney injury among newborns and children."

  • Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute Legacy Award

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Nancy Baxter. This award is presented to a senior scientist who exemplifies the mission of the institute of generating new knowledge and translating scientific discoveries to improve patient health.

  • Gillian Hawker Award

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Jonathan Zipursky by the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation

  • Ontario Early Researcher Award

    2019: Dr. Charles de Mestral was awarded $190,000 over five years for the project "Regional Foot Care and Amputation Prevention Pathways for All Ontarians." The award is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.

  • Ontario Early Researcher Award

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Karen Okrainec for the project "Let's Get you Home: Understanding Patient Experience and Health Outcomes from Hospital to Home." The award is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.

  • Best Original Research Article in Canadian Family Physician

    2019: Awarded to Dr. Bridget Ryan as part of the team for the article "Patients’ perceptions of access to primary care: analysis of the QUALICOPC Patient Experiences Survey"
