On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES), board chair Dr. Brian Golden is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. David Henry as president and chief executive officer, beginning September 4, 2007. This announcement follows an intensive recruitment process where highly qualified individuals were sought in both domestic and international forums in order to fulfill this significant role in information management and health services research in Ontario.
Dr. Henry joins ICES from the University of Newcastle in Australia where he holds several appointments, including professor of clinical pharmacology in the School of Medicine and Public Health, course controller for the Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics training program at the University’s Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and director of the Newcastle Institute of Public Health. He is also the director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Training in Pharmacoeconomics and Rational Drug Use, based at the University of Newcastle. Dr. Henry is a practicing internal medicine specialist and clinical toxicologist in the Newcastle region, and is chair of the Medical Staff Council at the Newcastle Mater Misericordiae Hospital.
“We are delighted and fortunate that Dr. Henry, a world-renowned scientist and innovative thinker, will be leading ICES into the future as the organization continues to grow to meet the increased demand for evidence to support decision making, policy development and improved care delivery” said Dr. Golden. “Not only does Dr. Henry bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to his appointment at ICES, his international perspective on healthcare issues will be of benefit to Ontario, and to Canada as a whole.”
Dr. Henry has worked with the WHO on a number of initiatives and has expertise in international systems for the pricing of therapeutic drugs. He has delivered invited national and international presentations on access to medicines and drug pricing issues, and has conducted drug policy issues courses for the WHO, Boston University and AusAid.
