ICES announces new site director for ICES Western

Share

ICES is pleased to announce that Dr. Kristin Clemens has assumed the role as site director of ICES Western, effective April 1, 2023. Kristin has been an adjunct scientist at ICES since 2016 and is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Western University. She is also medical director of the Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease program, general endocrinologist at St. Joseph’s Healthcare London, and is an associate scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute. Kristin’s clinical and research interest is in care and outcomes of those living with diabetes and osteoporosis alongside comorbidities, including chronic kidney disease. She works to address disparities in care for patients with complex health conditions, and her research has been supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, and Diabetes Canada.

Let's also take a moment to recognize and thank Dr. Amit Garg, who served as ICES Western's site director for the past decade. During Amit’s tenure, the Western site has grown as a core facility that researchers use for research, training, and decision support. The research done through ICES Western has led to positive changes in healthcare—notably, studies on COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness and the impact of COVID infection on physicians, and data-driven approaches to protect people experiencing homelessness in Ontario. Amit's contributions have built ICES Western from the ground up, and I want to sincerely thank him for his dedicated leadership and vision. Amit remains with ICES Western and will advance new and innovative randomized controlled trials in Ontario.

Please join us in congratulating both Kristin and Amit!
