ICES adjunct scientist Andreas Laupacis honoured by Canadian Medical Association

ICES adjunct scientist Andreas Laupacis will receive the Canadian Medical Association’s highest award in Winnipeg on August 21. Presented annually, the Frederic Newton Gisborne Starr Award recognizes those whose lifetime achievements serve as an inspiration and a challenge to the medical profession in Canada.

Dr. Laupacis is the founder and editor-in-chief of Healthy Debate, an influential website that provides the public with unbiased information about healthcare issues. He is a professor in the Department of Medicine and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. As the holder of a Canada Research Chair in Health Policy and Citizen Engagement, he is studying how new communication tools can best channel the views of patients.

Dr. Laupacis was president and chief executive officer of ICES from 2000 to 2006.
