A new big data study led by Dr. Jack Tu of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre examined 20-year trends in atherosclerotic disease Ontario-wide. It showed an overall decline of approximately 50% in both hospitalizations and cardiovascular deaths related to atherosclerotic disease, driven mostly by declines among 50-74 year olds. However, the study also showed either a flattening, or in some cases worsening, of trends in the heart health of younger Canadians.
