Biography

Ron Wald is a nephrologist at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto and a professor of medicine at the University of Toronto. His primary research interest is in critical care nephrology and he has been involved in several clinical trials in this area. He is currently co-leading an international randomized controlled trial on the timing of renal replacement therapy in acute kidney injury (STARRT-AKI). Ron also has an interest in the care provided to patients who survive an episode of acute kidney injury and has conducted research using large administrative datasets to study this population. He is co-leading a clinical trial comparing post-discharge follow-up with a nephrologist versus usual care after an episode of severe acute kidney injury. In the area of maintenance dialysis, Ron is co-leading research programs examining the effect of phosphate lowering and the benefits of incentre nocturnal hemodialysis.
