Beth Rachlis

Staff Scientist ICES Central Populations & Public Health Research Program

Biography

Dr. Beth Rachlis is a staff scientist with Data & Analytic Services (DAS), the Indigenous Portfolio and the Populations and Public Health Program at ICES. She completed her PhD in epidemiology with a specialization in global health at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, her MSc in epidemiology at the University of British Columbia, and her BSc in biology at McGill University. She is an epidemiologist with extensive experience leading, supporting and engaging in health-related research with a variety of stakeholders in Ontario, across Canada and globally. Through her graduate and post-doctoral training, Dr. Rachlis focused primarily on HIV-related issues in Vancouver, Canada, Malawi and Kenya to improve health and social outcomes among those impacted by HIV. Prior to coming to ICES in 2018, Dr. Rachlis spent three years working at the Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN) where she engaged in research involving the OHTN Cohort Study. She also led a community-based research study focused on improving medication access for people living with HIV across Ontario.

In her current role at ICES, Dr. Rachlis supports the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) in the James and Hudson Bay Region on various public health and community-based research with the goal of enhancing First Nations data stewardship in the region. Dr. Rachlis also supports Mamow Ahyamowen (meaning everyone's voices), an epidemiology partnership of Northern Ontario First Nations governed health service organizations, on various research projects driven by community-identified needs and priorities.
