The Bipolar Express
Challenges in the diagnosis of bipolar disorder
Nearly two-thirds of patient with Bipolar I disorder are previously misdiagnosed as having a unipolar depression. Delays in proper diagnosis of up to 20 years have been reported. This article reviews the diagnosis and principles of management of bipolar disorder, based on the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT) guidelines.
