Using data from the Cardiac Care Network of Ontario (CCN), this project will focus on generating surgeon-specific outcome profiles for chiefs of cardiac surgery in Ontario. The potential impact of either measuring surgeon skill and matching it to patient risk, or merely reducing volume for surgeons with poorer outcomes on short-term mortality will be assessed.
The second phase of this study will examine one-year outcomes to ensure that predictors and profiles for short- and longer-term results are reasonably similar.
