Share

Congratulations to ICES staff scientist Dr. Maria Chiu, who has been named one of CivicAction’s 25 DiverseCity Fellows of 2017. The DiverseCity Fellows are emerging leaders from various sectors who have made an impact in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. CivicAction’s DiverseCity Fellows program provides opportunities for emerging leaders to further develop leadership and increase their impact.

“These emerging leaders are already on track to have a big influence on our region, but the DiverseCity Fellows program will accelerate this tenfold,” said Sevaun Palvetzian, CEO of CivicAction.

Dr Chiu’s research is focused on the social determinants of health, mental health and addictions, and chronic diseases and conditions. She is also particularly interested in racial/ethnic differences in chronic disease risk. In addition to her research at ICES, Dr. Chiu is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto, and is a member of the American Heart Association Early Career Committee & Minorities Committee.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Chiu!
