Canada’s Fundamental Science Review panel chaired by ICES founding CEO David Naylor releases report

Share

Canada's Fundamental Science Review was commissioned in 2016 by Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan, appointing a blue-ribbon panel chaired by ICES founding CEO David Naylor. Yesterday the panel released their report, after extensive consultations with Canada’s research community, academic stakeholders, industry, civil society, and the public. The 280-page report offers a comprehensive review of the mechanisms for federal funding that support research undertaken at academic institutions and research institutes across Canada, as well as the levels of that funding. It provides a multi-year blueprint for improving the oversight and governance of Canada’s research ecosystem, and recommends making major new investments to restore support for front-line research and to strengthen the foundations of Canadian science and research.
