Dr. Salimah Shariff is a staff scientist with the Populations & Public Health Research Program at ICES and chief research & strategic partnerships officer at ICES Western . She completed her PhD in epidemiology & biostatistics specializing in medical informatics and health services research at Western University, and Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) in computer science with a specialization in bioinformatics at the University of Waterloo. Dr. Shariff started her career with ICES in 2011, where she was instrumental in establishing the ICES Western site in London, Ontario. From 2013 to 2021, Dr. Shariff was the director of the ICES Faculty Scholars program, which was established to provide university faculty with grounding in health services research using ICES data. The program ran for four cycles and trained 42 faculty across Ontario.
Over the years, Dr. Shariff has participated in numerous influential studies in diverse disciplines. More recently, Dr. Shariff led the development of an approach to identify individuals experiencing homelessness using health administrative data, which has stemmed a program of research at ICES Western applying data-driven approaches to protect people experiencing homelessness in Ontario. In her roles, Dr. Shariff continues to oversee and lead various research initiatives, knowledge user requests (AHRQ projects) and stakeholder engagement activities at ICES Western.
